Imperial Edicts

Heros not Welcome
A rash of unhelpful, do-gooders seems to have imported themselves into Nanthalion, seeking to break up the common and accepted practice of rape. Rape, as we all know, is the use of force to obtain sexual pleasure from an unwilling partner.
While the Empire sees any further damage as mutilation or torture, heroes moving to break up these non-consensual encounters are seen as pests and may find themselves on the wrong side of Right! (See: Imperial Edicts, and OOC News for further details)

OOC News

The issue of Rape has brought down a strict Imperial Edict. The only responsive actions to a Rape are the ones that must be outlined in a Rape Tag. Time to be specific, folks! "If you rape me, something bad will happen to you!" just doesn't cut it any longer.
StormBringer reiterates that OOC knowledge cannot be used ICly and the way your character reacts to another's rape must be based on IC knowledge alone. If no one's told you, and you didn't see it, you don't know!
Further, any retribution to a rape must be noted in the Rape Tag or it is invalid, retribution may only be carried out by someone close to the victim (Master/Mistress, wife/husband, CLOSE friend, etc.), and anyone who makes a Rape Tag outside of the victims (ex. If you rape ____, then my character will ____) or who acts beyond the agreed upon rape tag for the event will be deducted a massive amount of XP! 1000 points to be exact. Make sure you think twice, folks!
Rape is common place and needn't even garner a second glance.

StormBringer: The Aloof Emeror
by auryn{S}

The Emperor StormBringer is a man shrouded in mystery, both self-made and spawned from a public of uncertain admirers. Little is known of his history or upbringing, but through a letter interview, the aloof man has offered you readers a glimpse of what he sees for the future.

One of the most common misconceptions regarding the Emperor and the land that he controls is both his location and its size. While many new comers are lead to believe that the Emperor lives in a far off palace, dripping with riches, the Emperor actually lives in the capitol city, Nanthalion. Still a full-time patron of the Inn, StormBringer chooses to lead in a faceless manner to avoid both attacks upon his person, or mobbing of a kinder sort, which would distract him from his duties to Nanthalion.

His duties include expanding the Empire, which currently covers about 300,000 square miles. No small fry by any standards. While previous campaigns for expansion have used military might by the Imperial Guards and army, Emperor StormBringer sees the growing capitol city as a trade and cultural center a manner to expand the Empire by economic and social power.

Despite the power of his position, the Emperor seems to choose the humble life, living privately with his two slaves Naiya and Ayla. His admitted preference for a lack of ostentation also supports his desire to see the Empire grow before he begins to take on more physical signs of wealth and power.

Attempts to find out more about the man behind the foggy exterior gleaned only the fact that he frequently enjoys coffee.

"To me the thing to be most proud of is the quality of those people who you can call friends and who ally themselves to your cause. No physical structure or ideology can overshadow the people who choose to be around you," wrote Emperor StormBringer, when asked if there was anything about his Empire that caused him a particular amount of pride.

In summary, the Emperor is a man who watches over us without being watched, sees without being seen, and would generally make a good candidate to an Assassin's Guild or a Spy Guild if he decided that ruling an empire was no longer his interest. Though he concerns him self with the running of Nanthalion, more so than with personal gain or notoriety, the influence of his work is evident. Nanthalion and surrounding territory are both strong economically, culturally and protected by the quiet hand of the Emperor and his army.

The following will now be a regular section in the Nanthalion Times!
The Spell Spotby Lyirae

"Reading over this spell with my pet sleeping at my feet, the myriad of uses for it has suddenly become apparent. Why spend time fumbling with blindfolds that might slip off while I'm teasing him? Why let him see the objects of his torture before I have the chance to use them on him? I think I shall put this spell to use in our next play session. The denial of his sense of sight will not only make him more dependent on me, it will increase his anxiety, his arrousal, his fear."

Spotlight: Millinia by auryn{S}

This section is another OOC addition, highlighting the talents of some of the players of Belariath. This issue's artist is not one I know personally, but whose intriguing art is worth note and praise. Millinia, who plays a female cat person in the game, has also submitted photographs of her work as a weaponsmith, specializing by appearances in daggers. Her pieces look both deadly, beautiful and kinda sexy! Check out her work on the Belariath website under Artists, here.

If you're interested in being Spotlighted for a talent, or you know someone who deserves public acknowledgement of their skills, please submit their name and an example of their talent.

Editorial

Dear Readers,
This week I come to you with not so much a greeting as a motivation to fix one of the nastiest problems we have at Nanthalion: the cleanliness of the Inn. As you all should know, the Lonely Inn is the central meeting place and the home of several of our visitors and natives, including the Emporer. This alone is reason enough to keep it clean!
Now, the Inn has an admirable repair crew whose quick and efficient service seldom stops up flow of business and patronage at the Inn. In this manner, the Inn is second only to the White Tower, Unigo. But basic sanitation at the Inn is atrocious!
Tables are used for everything from eating upon, to raping upon, to standing upon, and rarely is there an Inn worker following up each activity with a damp rag. Plates and mugs are left all over the place, some near the hearth have begun to grow their own empire in last week's dinner. Boothes are the worst though. Frequently a place for trists, the curtained off areas are a breeding ground for germs, mold and mildew with all the liquids being exchanged in secret. With the recent plague flare up in the area, this problem must be addressed!
It is the opinion of this editor, that an advertisement be placed by the Inn's management for a troop of brownies, gifted with cleaning ability or spell, to be hired on and provide cleaning services each night. Something must happen, else we'll be up in our ears in guck!

Your editor,
auryn, slave of ShaKa
