Headline News By: Kendarin Bloodtear Inside he who is him... Those who have come to live life in Nanthalion have embraced-- or have been force to embrace-- the diversity that comes with it, the myriad of races that inhabit the towns, the streets, the delightful little scenery. It's a common fact that the races mingle in and out with impunity; cats and dogs, elves and humans, minotaurs and anything crazy enough to let them slip between their thighs. What most don't see, don't realize, is that there are stories from each race. Each race has its own subdivisions; some are more familiar with the nymphs; the oreads, sylphs, naiads, and the like, or with the elves; the dark elves, high, and sylvan elves. What I speak of runs deeper than blood; it transcends physicality. It delves into pride, tradition, things longer standing that just the people that they become. It's their heritage, their home, their upbringing. Not many people around here take pride in what they are. They may take pride in general-- in their work, their prowess, their skill-- but it seems that so few take pride in which they are, what they themselves have become. Everyone has a home, and I don't mean here in Nanthalion. I mean where they originated, where they were before they came here. Everyone has their roots, be they wolves, elves, fae, or the head of an Empire, and I, for one, don't deny mine. I was born in the deserts far south of here. How far south, I can't exactly say, but I do know that I lived in a place where every day being alive was a celebration. We dined on spiced meat and exotic fruits that I still haven't seen around these parts; we danced, experimented with music (and, ah, other things); indeed, every day seemed to be just a celebration that we had clean air to breathe and the well hadn't run dry and the spice harvest was impressive as ever. My favorite festival each year, before I left the deserts, was called the "Sandy Sun Envy" contest. Every year, the best cooks from each eatery would come by, be given some of the finest meats to prepare, and would take the challenge of preparing them to create the most succulent, flavorful meal-- with the key being fire, the heat of the spices. Our judges always wanted heat, but they wanted a flavor that they could enjoy alongside the slow, subtle burn. Of course, most of the best chefs at the eateries enjoyed cooking for people, so there would always be enough to go around, always followed by a cool, soothing cup of tonguesooth-- a drink created by some of the smarter catwomen involving milk and vanilla bean. I'd always eat my fill, and then drink the tonguesooth to the point of near-sickness. I've always been a bit of a foolish cat around food, anyways... And, of course, every month we had the Aurora Gala. Where we lived, we could see the lights in the skies, and every month, at the end of the month, we had a celebration with those magnificent celestial skies as a backdrop. Dancing, song, and more than one impromptu game of sorts, whether they involve throwing things or singing or seeing who can stack the most coins into one tower before they all fell. Life as a young catboy was particularly lucrative at that point, as a lot of the games involved balance, especially on precariously small precipices. With a little luck and some decent lower claws, a young cat can make a small fortune. I've spent my time embracing my memories, my past, and I invite the rest of you to do the same. Take a moment, think about the events in your life that made you what you are, and embrace them. I invite you to write to me and tell me about previous experiences, your heritage. What makes you proud to be you? Maybe we'll all start a revolution. Attention, Nathalion Citizens! I'm bored. And you probably wonder why you should care. Well, I don't like being bored, and I have money. Money that I really care little for and I can't think of anything else to use it on, so... This is a call to all entertainers, bards, attractive women, insatiable lovers, and anyone else that has something they can do to alleviate my plight. Come win your share of a 700 mehrial prize pool for those that can entertain me. The rules are simple: I will take short audiences with the contestants, who will do whatever they care to, in order to entertain me. I don't give a good damn what they do, whether it's singing, dancing, telling tales, playing instruments, playing with themselves... the only rule is that they cannot touch me in any way. There will be three prizes for two groups: groups of men and groups of women. First prize in each group is 200 mehrial, second prize is 100, and third prize is 50. All performances will be judged by me. I will warn you that I am biased, but then again, it's my money to give out as I see fit. To enter this contest, simply get in contact with me. Write to the paper, send me fairymail, or get in contact with my slave, Renaya. Once I have enough competitors so that there can be clear winners-- and losers-- I'll announce a date. Warning: I'm not really that nice of a person when I'm cranky. Be prepared to be made fun of if you deserve it. Kendarin Bloodtear BREAKING NEWS! By: kiarana{StWi} Yesterday what started out as a normal day of going to work ended in turmoil. The MMR was opened by myself, only seconds later to be robbed!! I, unfortunately, do not have a description of these thieves, but my advice is to just simply give them what they want unless you wish harm to come your way. Rumors are that these thieves might be the very ones who attacked Orlando's ships early last month. This reporter has been unable to find out who they are much less gain an interview, but I will keep trying. However, I only wonder are these thieves out for just themselves or is there something larger, something more darker afoot here? From the Dev Team's Desk....
| A letter from the Editor...Dear Patrons of Nanthalion & also citizens of Valencia...It is with great pleasure I offer ye yet another edition of the Chronicle, but ye might be wondering why the change. We felt it was important to give each patron a voice and a reason for picking up the latest edition of the paper. It is with gratitude I introduce my current staff. They are a wonderful, hard working, and devoted group of wayward souls. Without their help, the Chronicle was in great threat of being unpublished. So please show them the same respect and encouragement as ye have shown me. There are new pages included within each scroll. Pay close attention to the Assistant Editor's page, where ye yeself will be able to write a letter to him voicing your concerns, comments, and feedback about the paper. I also would like to make special mention of a new staff member. Our own head reporter, kiarana{StWi}. She has gone chasing many dangerous and interesting news articles to bring to ye. Although the paper might look a bit different, or the scroll a bit thicker, one thing has yet to remain the same. ~Our quality~ We gladly provide this service for ye, my reading audience. Thank you for picking up the latest edition of the Nanthalion Chronicle and with your patronage the orphans will have a bit more gruel in their bowls. Your devoted Editor, Chastity D. DeKartan (Letters sent to Chastity) Belariath's Top Fifteen: Introducing Kable 1. What are your thoughts on the way the Empire is being run? Politics is a sphere of thought I rarely endeavor to enter. As I see it the governing of the people is being ran the way it always has in every land. There are leaders and there are followers. There are those who make decisions and those who carry them out. Is this a good thing? The question is moot--it is the only method that appears to work. 2. What are your thoughts on the war with Valencia? At the conclusion, even the victor will have lost the war. In war there are no winners. 3. How do you feel about slavery? Slavery is an institution that has been engaged in since the dawn of man. I am the very happy owner of my own slave--Obsession. Everyone is a slave to any number of things in this life. The slavery you speak of which we engage in here in the Empire only makes the relationship formal between a pair. 4. What do you think of the paper? I have only just begun to read the paper. I find it enjoyable and helpful. 5. If not a local, where do you come from and what brought you to settle here? I was born in these lands, and yet I have not been truly a part of them until recently. I was born into seclusion before I was reborn into the world I live in now. 6. If a local, how do you feel about all the outsiders moving in? It bothers me little, as I have been an outsider living on the inside for most of my life. 7. Do you think the stores in town are properly staffed with helpful employees? It is rare when one cannot find what one needs in a reasonable amount of time, with few exceptions. 8. What is the best thing about the Empire? The loose hierarchy that allows for flexibility and the chance for those with ambition and luck to rise. 9. What is the worst thing about the Empire? The loose hierarchy that allows for easier dissension and a possible undermining of authority. 10. How do you feel about the service and entertainment in the inn? I have no complaints as of yet, it seems to be well-staffed and there is always something...interesting to see there. 11. Do you prefer magic or physical means of settling conflicts? I prefer the method that is best suited to steer the conflict towards a resolution in as expedient a manner as possible, though I lean towards the physical 12. Who is your best friend? My kitten, Obsession. She is at once the obedient slave a Master would desire and as thoughtful as a philosopher. I wouldn't trade her for any other in the realm. 13. Who is your worst enemy? In a word--Myself. 14. How would you describe yourself in ten words or less? A man of many things, seeking truth in this life. 15: Give us a character pic! Example of artwork, by Eraelabryn |
