Eyewitness account to the attack upon Vladimir Alzenwrath tells a rather odd story. While this potential reeve was taking a drink within the Inn, it seems he was attacked, after sharing some refreshment by a nae do good type! Horrible, one arrow to the thigh, thank the gods for good healers being on staff, it would be a horrible thing to lose such a being, before his time!!
Easy enough to see the plotting thick in the air. This candidate smooching this one, that one smooching another. Just watch, don't get caught eavesdropping, that's rude, and they DO NOT LIKE IT...however..if one of them gets dropped by a stray arrow, it is always possible to try to pick those pockets..I have heard bribes line pockets WONDERFULLY well.

To the North, there have been sightings of the Hairy Hill Troll. Those who live in this outlying land, seem to believe that their homes are going to fall victim to such a depraved Monster. Stalking out, he has been said to be over 7 foot tall, and several stones weight. Teeth sharp and glistening as he makes such horrible sounds, rampaging out and about. Rumors keep flying about this one, and since it isn't a job for the IG, one has to wonder, will a band of citizens step up and dispatch such a foe! Or..indeed, will it be nothing more then another case of mistaken identity, perhaps instead of a Hairy Troll, merely a wolven with an ingrown nail.

Annwyn and Kerianna have decided to take that leap, no, not over a cliff, but indeed, to marry. Wish them much happiness, the ceremony was delightfully beautiful, and down to the wolf cubs that were given as gifts of affection for both brides to keep. Many attended, and dined the eve away, all the while entertaining and wishing well the beautiful couple!

A couple bodies, one found within the forest, and the other found in town. While it could be mere chance, it seems strange, at least to this reporter that both were men of ill repute, known for their..games in the most wicked of ways. One with arrows found still within his cooling corpse, the other, well..it is enough to say that he was suffocated, but..by what? What reason, and who, would work this foul bit of justice? Even stranger still, witnesses report a soft music playing, before bodies were found. Perhaps that as well, was simple chance, a bard walking about, playing a bit of music, as they..do have chance to do.

Introducting Infernis as Candidate for Reeve....
First off, I'd just like to thank the powers that Be for this opportunity to give back to the Empire that has so graciously given so much to me.With that said, this position isn't so much about trust as it is about expectations. Now, only a fool would trust someone they didn't know and most of you don't really know me. But, you do know what you can expect from me. That being my attempt to my absolute best to do the best job that I can. Why? Because the perks are bound to be 'grand'. And to keep this job, I have to provide what 'you' want.
You see, I've always believed that it is the 'people' that define this town. And its people are its greatest resource. With that in mind, it's my intention to put forth a deluge of plans to make the most of this resource. To funnel its energies in such ways that it is no longer squandered in meaningless feuding and wasteful conflicts. No, the great peoples of this town shall be given new direction, paths shown and guided along. Ingenuity and intelligence will be rewarded handsomely, the smarter man will prosper and grow in this town.
What does this mean, you ask. Well, those with ideas will be listened to, those with complaints will be 'heard' and administered to, as well. Do you think something should be run differently? Why? How would you do it differently? Can you show me how it could be done quicker, easier, more efficient? Such men and women are the heart of our power and I will make the most of them, rewarding with coin, prestige and influence. But, only if you have the heart of a lion and have the ability to speak up. And, of course, if I get elected. The idea is, I surround myself with people who know what the 'hell' that they're doing. Even if I don't know, personally, what you need done about a particular problem, I bet I can find someone close at hand who does.
What is it you would like to see? More use of the Arena? More trade? Perhaps more Imperial Guard patrols? These things I can do, and more, very much more. Too often, our town falls under attack by creatures powerful and deadly, and all too often our guards are too few in number. My opponents are fairly experienced, but how many dragons have they faced? How many beasts have they challenged when the creatures came calling?
Valencia now sits within the Empire and stands ready to join our ranks, with trade caravans moving out to begin bringing its wealth back to Nanthalion. And I stand able to best coax this along, positioned as I am within that newly conquered realm. Can the others say the same? I am not condemning them for their lack of influence in such things, or their lack of political savvy, understand. I am merely highlighting what is there.
They say that politicians, those who seek such positions are inevitably crooks. I agree. However, I intend to be the best gods-be-damned crook out there for 'you'. Because, hey, if I don't? You vote me out in two months. So, I best do as much good as I can, when I can, right? And who in this entire grand town can you see doing a better job for his own selfish reasons than myself?
I came to Nanthalion three years ago, quickly found a job working at the General Store, then at the Temple. Eventually became head of the Dark Temple before it was merged with the others. Resigned to become a slaver and learn that craft. From there, he's learned the arts of flesh modification and now runs the Body Arts shop.
An accomplished Warrior Mage, he owns three slaves, his most prized possessions. He also owns a Tower, Spire Argentus in the deep woods east of the Town.
He has fought and helped put down one rampaging dragon, several elementals, the undead, and goblin hordes. He helped engineer the fall of Valencia and now works to begin trade between the two realms.

Priorities:
2) The establishment and recruiting of additional Imperial Guard troops for additional protection against attacks by wild creatures.
3) A focusing on the Arena and the money that can be made therein. A focusing on games, both physical and sexual, that can be used to coax money from the crowd in return for greater fun for all.
4) The capture and punishment of the 'Slave Slayer'. Such menaces cannot be allowed to roam free and unchecked.
5) A concentration on Unigo and the potential wealth to be had from greater exploitation of their magical resources after determining the safest and most efficient way of producing new items.
6) The creation of a perimeter wall and/or towers in case of attack.
7) An overall examination of the various shops and businesses to better determine which ones are not contributing as they can and should. From there, a determination as to what and who can best produce the most from these shops with a priority on efficiency and ingenuity.
By now, you need not have me tell you why I am having these messages sent about and posted openly...There is a vote to be had, a decision made by the people of this town, to decide who will best provide what they need and desire.
And that is, really, what this is about. Desires and Needs, and the one best able to provide those...
Thus, below, you will find a listing of these things that I will see done, should I succeed in winning your confidence...By listing these, I will demonstrate that out of those striving for this position, only I have any real plans for my service...
1) The immediate establishment of new trade caravans to the newly annexed realm of Valencia. This will require the hiring of caravan guards to ensure their safety. Thus, putting more money into your pockets and offering up new and exotic goods from that land.
2) The immediate hiring of more Imperial Guard. There has been a recent crime wave, more and more thieves are brazenly stealing from the shops themselves. Should I be chosen, I will strongly encourage that the Guard be bolstered with more than a few non-military types hired who's singular purpose will be to police the business district and cut back on theft losses.
3) A return to the glories of the Arena. It has fallen into disrepair and disuse. I will see that changed by 'personally' hiring capable men and women to go forth and capture wild creatures in the wilderness. These beasts will be returned to the Arena and put to proper use in a series of Games where our best and brightest can show off their skills to the crowd. Also, a series of Sexual Games as well for both slave and free for the enjoyment of all.
4) A focusing on the Slave Slayer. This miscreant has escaped justice until now, but such men should never be allowed to flaunt our laws. New resources will be allocated to the Guard to ensure that he is captured, tried and executed publicly to ensure that no one will ever doubt the reach of the Empire's arm.
5) A closer working relationship with Unigo itself. As a Warrior Mage, I have no grand use for the Tower, but many of you 'do' and its Headmaster, Halfmoon will be given what he needs to further Unigo's rebirth into the new era. With the furthering of magical trade with Valencia, there is no telling what can bloom from this union of mutual gain.
6) Lastly, another defensive measure, a defensive wall, a Perimeter will be constructed around the town itself. Whether it be a series of small watchtowers, or a wall itself, we have allowed ourselves to become lax and complacent and as a result, we have been overrun by goblins, undead and other beasties from the swamps nearby. I will see an end to that immediately. This will require a further hiring of workers, both magical and physical, to construct the fortifications and then to man them afterward. Resulting, again, in more money for those of you who are hired.
As you can see from the above, I have many plans for the tasks ahead of us. There is much work to be done, much money to be made, much 'fun' to be enjoyed.
New trade, new Games, new jobs, more money and safer homes and work places. Is this 'all' that you can expect from me? No, of course not.
This is only the beginning.

Laria Swiftclaw, a name many know within these lands. Vivid, honest, strong, and tenacious, all of these words could be used to describe this wonderful citizen of our Empire. A feline, some know her calico past, as all of us have. This issuance, on parchment, crafted in ink, cannot contain what the image of this woman holds. More then her gender, more then heritage, more then her past, she is in all ways a creature of the Empire. One like many of us, who came from nothing and crafted a small bit of something within the vastness of this Land. While there will be those, who speak of the Past, of deeds done when the soul was young, let us not forget this election, this candidate chosen by the People to run, is looking only to the future, to what IS to be. This, Ladies and Gentlemen, Nobles and Slaves, Masters and tradesmen, is the standing platform for Laria's campaign.
Point one: The Military as it is will be shaped up. There will be an overview of training protocol as well, as working to achieve a better system of communication. Timed watches, guard posts within the town shall be one of the additions added within the two months as Reeve.
Point two: A rising awareness and reshaping of Guilds, providing every citizen with the chance, to learn and grow, increasing the common mans ability to work for himself and make a trade out of his skills. Also, the Guilds themselves will be able then, to branch out, make business ties, that will increase not only their influence, but restore power back to the craftsmen and his family.
Point three: Temples, the places of Gods. As Reeve, Laria will strive to not only work with the Temples themselves, but to stress the importance of worship and the ability to worship who one wishes. This bringing back attention to the Gods, surely will be pleasing within their eyes, and lead us to the golden age of realizations.
Point four: Patronage of the arts will be a critical point as Reeve. Providing artists with the chance to improve their skills, their crafts, holding functions and sway. Art shows, exhibitions and demonstrations, with Town support, will give those struggling to make a name for themselves, that chance.
Point five: A restarting of economy, by promoting private business, as well as creating those jobs for those searching for them. Allowing businesses to pool their resources, providing grants, so that they can hire more workers, which in turn, will increase profits and our commerce, as far as exporting, to lands beyond our own.
Point six: Land purchases, and regular business transactions. By providing ways that owners could profit with their lands, through farming, share cropping, or other alternatives to holding land merely as a symbol of status. Making the land work for those within the partnership, equal work, for equal pay.
Point seven: A stopping to the defilement of the woods, ideas and council with those who serve the forest and nature within. Placing a stop to the mass pillaging of this resource that many of our natives call home.
Point eight: Calling to increase the Towns defenses, be it through a Wall, increasing the Guard, or searching out a more magical means.
Point nine: To rebuild GSS building, as seen in point two, this will provide many benefits and boons. Also to bring back the Casino, and explore the abilities of this to generate more jobs for all citizens.
Point ten: To improve the standard system of laws, giving clear cut interpretations of each law in turn, and providing a system of punishment that doesn't allow for those who control all to escape unscathed from such.
It is easy to see, why the Temple of Gaea has chosen to back this noble warrior of Nature and Art. The position of Reeve to this candidate means more then title, or prestige, but is seen as a chance to make waves, make changes, and pray that those changes affect everyone in the Empire with positive connotations.

One of those elected to take the position of Reeve, to govern over us, in some ways, to hold a bit power to guide and sooth our daily lives. What do we know about this substantial man? Many things, actually. If we glean from all sources, from posters that were vandalized so early on, if we draw from his invitation to debate with his fellow electives. Indeed, we know much, from his being the ONLY Reeve elective to be supported by the lovely pyromancer and soon to be Emperess. So then, lets read between those lines, shall we?
To often it is what one doesn't say, that should be what we look to. Vladimir, unlike his rivals, has not stooped to slinging mud, nor insulting those in power already. Indeed, his posters, those lovely images, only poked a bit of fun, at himself. They spoke legions of what he wished for the common man, what he would do with the power of Reeve, create a bit of ease, in a society that seems hell bent on creating only hardness. Such a presence, to be so clever, so human, in the way of being humane. Charismatic, and also one might even say charming, to find such a way to reach even those of Nathalion who cannot read.
Even in his challenge to his advisories, he is polite, courteous, and holds them in esteem. Rather then waste the peoples time with such frivolous actions as postering letters here and there, or taking his time, to arrange deals with others already in powerful positions, he has chosen to take his campaign to where it matters. Us. The citizens of Nathalion.
Strange, that while holding a conversation with a ragged individual, a conversation about what could be done with the Reeveship, to better the Town, to secure work, and create a environment for ALL to prosper, not only himself, he took an arrow to the thigh. Hard fact, assassinations were always meant to be a part of this election. Even if he himself, isn’t dirty of such sleazy politics, someone in the race is. While he braved the pain, and still went on to campaign, so speak of a better land for you and I, denying himself the chance to rest, to make sure his words were heard. Is this the action of a common man, or a man you would feel honored to hold office for you, work..for you.
No promises of this great thing, or that. No reason to lie. He stands for a truth, for the truth. That when elected he will do what he MUST to make sure that we, as citizens, are welcome to speak, to be heard, to have ideas and plans implemented, when that is within his power. One doesn’t need to say, Vote for Vladimir, one shouldn’t have to. Just be sure, to open your eyes, and see the larger picture, read between those lines, and listen to what isn’t being said.

A Challenge By: Eraelabryn As I write this, I am compelled to beseech you to make me a liar. Sitting in the Inn, the course of conversation about the new Reeve election has been astonishing, even to me. Hearing bits and pieces of conversations, those who say..very clearly.."It's rigged, it's a position of a puppet, I personally do not care, it will not affect me..in the slightest which ever bastard or bitch wins." It stunned me, yes, stunned, because to hear, someone professing they believe a position, where change will occur and power will be had is a position that will NOT affect the common man, seems more then ludicrous. Make me a liar, come out in droves, and vote for the one who doesn't leave the WORST taste in your mouth. I will not speak of candidates, my thoughts, who I back, is well known. I have professed it enough, and explained my reasons for it. This article, this..writing, is not to incite you, to back my choice, but in fact, to back A choice, any choice. If you don't exercise that ability to place someone in that office, a puppet will over take it, and then, we will have no say so, in those matters which will affect us. Read their letters, become aware, make sure you know what it at face value, and what is underneath their smiles. Ask questions, make deals. this is Nath, the vilest of deeds are done dirt cheap, so to speak. Bribes, bargains, deals with the very wicked, those things make our world go around. Yes, even with a Reeve in place, this is still an Empire, but, I don't know about you, but I realize that even the littlest maggot one day will grow up to be a fly. And a little power, gives a person who hasn't held it, the belief he can do *anything*. If it was a position of a mere pawn, would the ones who hold power, come out to back One, and One alone? No. It is realized that there is power within the Title, and more so, power because when this Person takes office. OUR votes placed them there. So we, in turn cannot complain, we selected, we chose. To not select, to not chose is to allow your neighbor to make up your mind, to trust your enemy with making a drink for you. Do you trust him THAT much? I don't. So once more, I bid you, Make me a liar, if you believe the election doesn't matter, come and vote anyways, if it won't affect you, in your eyes, VOTE anyways. Chocolate Mint Meringue Cheesecake INGREDIENTS: * 1 cup of chocolate wafer crumbs * 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar * 3 tablespoons of butter or margarine, melted * 4 pints (which is 3 8-ounce packages) of cream cheese, softened * 2/3 cup of granulated sugar * 3 large eggs * 1 cup of mint chocolate chips * 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract * 3 large egg whites * 1 (7-ounce) jar of marshmallow creme * 1 generous sprinkle of Monk's Hood (if you want to bury your friends in the back yard after dinner) PREPARATION: 1. Combine the chocolate wafer crumbs, 2 tablesoons of sugar, and the melted butter. Press onto the bottom of a baking pan (9-inch pan). Bake at your hearth. (350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes) 2. In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and 2/3 cup sugar, mixing as best as you can (or at medium speed with an electric mixer) until well blended. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Blend in the mint chocolate chips and vanilla; pour over the crust. 3. Bake at your hearth (350°F (175°C) for 50 minutes) until nicely finished. Loosen the cake from the rim of the pan; cool before removing from the pan. Place on a bound duessa (in other words, chill). 4. Beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add marshmallow creme, beating until they starkly resemble little puffy white nipples. Carefully spread over the top of the cheesecake to the edges. Bake at your hearth (450°F (230°C) for 3 to 4 minutes) until lightly browned. Sprinkle the Monk's Hood on top for a brand-new cemetery in your back yard. *Under no circumstances should you add this ingredient - it is actual poison, and lethal. Cooking with Calia: By Calia Every one needs a snack to serve, while waiting on the election results. This is a sure fire favorite, even if you don't care who wins or loses. INGREDIENTS: * 1 Fruit of a lie ( small onion, diced fine.) * 1 Mortar full of flaked deception (can of crab meat, drained.) * 1 jug full of the cream of what REALLY buys votes. (large package of cream cheese.) In a food processor, pour chopped onion, and then add the cream cheese, pulse it, to make it all smooth and creamy. Then add in the crab, give it a few..whirls, to make it sticky, and flavored. Feel free to add a pinch of dill, or a bit of paprika to make it look snazzy, no one wants to devour white, hot, paste. Make it look pretty, it's all about presentation. Cook in a preheated oven, on 350 for 20 to 25 min, in a pie plate. Serve with bits of toasted bread, or crackers. |
A letter from the Editor...
Dear Patrons of Nanthalion & also citizens of Valencia...It is with great pleasure I offer ye yet another edition of the Chronicle, but ye might be wondering why the change. We felt it was important to give each patron a voice and a reason for picking up the latest edition of the paper. It is with gratitude I introduce my current staff. They are a wonderful, hard working, and devoted group of wayward souls. Without their help, the Chronicle was in great threat of being unpublished. So please show them the same respect and encouragement as ye have shown me.
There are new pages included within each scroll. Pay close attention to the Assistant Editor's page, where ye yeself will be able to write a letter to him voicing your concerns, comments, and feedback about the paper. I also would like to make special mention of a new staff member. Our own head reporter, kiarana{StWi}. She has gone chasing many dangerous and interesting news articles to bring to ye.
Although the paper might look a bit different, or the scroll a bit thicker, one thing has yet to remain the same. ~Our quality~ We gladly provide this service for ye, my reading audience. I am writing in regards to comments made by your reporter, Neri, in her report of my brief interview. I do not know why she insists on calling me 'he'. I assure you, I am most definitely a woman, which I would be more than happy to demonstrate if there is any doubt. How the pixie could mistake me for a man is beyond me - she was staring at my breasts quite obviously during our talk, and in my travels I have never once had such a misunderstanding.

1. What are your thoughts on the way the Empire is being run?
It is a system that works, but with much to be desired. Violence is a daily part of everyone's life and that is not something children should have to grow up with. The ISA is a necessary evil as long as this rampant violence exists and I would see that the IG start protecting the people that made this empire and not just the property that inhabits it.
2. What are your thoughts on the war with Valencia?
I am against war, and will only participate as is my duty. War hurts the families of fallen soldiers, and the poor who fall through the gaps of a strained country with limited resources. I say Belariath should take the high road and offer peace and reparation efforts to all victims of this war, Valencian and Belarian. Set an example for all realms to follow for centuries to come.
3. How do you feel about slavery?
The subjugation of anyone's freewill is an unthinkable notion to me. It is a vile practice, the excuse that the weak need powerful masters to protect them is unacceptable. The empire should be one where the weak can walk freely without fear. I urge everyone who reads this paper to help make it so.
4. What do you think of the paper?
Anything that helps bring the community together is a helpful tool. Utilized correctly this paper can bring changes to the entire realm. The right message at the right time can make or break an empire.
5. If not a local, where do you come from and what brought you to settle here?
I hail from a mountain tribe of Torian, they raised me from a fledgling in the ways of the warrior. Once I reached adulthood, as is our custom, they sent a group of us out to find our way in life. I parted ways with my kin at Nanthalion to fulfill the dream of all of my kin...to become strong enough to start their own Aerie and add another branch to my tribe.
The stores have always suited my needs, the staff are quick and courteous and I have never spent more than an hour in any one store.

8. What is the best thing about the Empire?
I give Stormbringer credit for carving an empire out of a diverse group of races and tribes each with their own heated views towards one another. I think that any man that can bring these people together and keep a relative peace is the best thing about the empire. I think under his leadership we will see a golden age where there will be no more violence in the streets. I met a Chirot who bore me no malice and by the end of our meeting, I would even call them a friend.. who would have thought that possible?
9. What is the worst thing about the Empire?
My first day in nanthalion I saw a woman beaten and raped for not accepting the advances of a larger male. I think that is the worst aspect of the realm. I hope to see a day where the weaker peoples of Belariath do not have to hide or submit to the stronger.
10. How do you feel about the service and entertainment in the inn?
The tenders have always been gracious and efficient.. the music and dancing is wonderful when it is there. The patrons need to learn to govern themselves a bit more and I have developed a healthy fear of dice. My opinion on the Inn changes with the wind but regardless, everyday spent there is a memorable one.
11. Do you prefer magic or physical means of settling conflicts?
I prefer to allow diplomacy settle conflicts but when that fails I must defend myself with what I know best, the ways of a warrior is strictly physical. A proper feint or flank maneuver can be just as devastating as the most mystical of spells.
12. Who is your best friend?
While I hold many in high regards, Elder Mayalaya asked nothing of me and welcomed me into Nanthalion. She took a risk and extended her friendship to me and thus I am indebted to her and grateful. She has my friendship and loyal service whenever she calls.
13. Who is your worst enemy?
Vladimir Alzenwrath would be the best choice for this. He has a malevolent mind and a silver tongue. His twisted words confuse and trick innocents into doing his bidding. When his words fail him, he becomes a violent wicked man...I personally witnessed an attack on a young woman for no reason whatsoever. To all reading this, listen to him not.. his words are his power.
14. How would you describe yourself in ten words or less?
Honest, foolish, brave, compassionate, stubborn, withdrawn, trusting, loyal and lightweight drinker.
